If you've ever imported a spritesheet into Unity by hand — slicing frames in the Sprite Editor, creating animation clips one by one, wiring up an Animator Controller — you know it's tedious. Especially when you're iterating on AI-generated characters and want to test them in-engine fast. That's why we built the **AutoSprite Unity Extension**. It takes your exported spritesheet (PNG + JSON) and does the entire import pipeline for you — slicing, animation clips, and Animator setup — in one click. ![AutoSprite Unity Extension](/screenshot.png) ## Watch It in Action ## What It Does Here's what the extension handles automatically when you import a spritesheet: - **Slices your spritesheet** into individual sprite frames using the JSON atlas data - **Creates AnimationClip assets** with the correct frame order and timing - **Generates an AnimatorController** so you can preview and play animations immediately - **Sets up point filtering** so pixel art stays crisp — no blurry sprites You can also **download spritesheets directly from AutoSprite** using your API key, without ever leaving Unity. ## Installing in Under a Minute The fastest way to install is through Unity's Package Manager: In Unity, go to **Window > Package Manager**. Click the **+** button and select **"Install package from git URL"**. Paste this URL and click **Install**: ``` https://github.com/autospriteio/autosprite-unity.git?path=/Assets/AutoSprite ``` That's it — Unity downloads and sets up everything. No Git on your machine? You can also [download the ZIP](https://github.com/autospriteio/autosprite-unity) and drop the `AutoSprite` folder into your project's `Assets` directory. From there you have two options: ### Local Import If you've already downloaded your spritesheet from AutoSprite: 1. Click **Import Local Spritesheet** 2. Select your `.png` file, then the matching `.json` file 3. Done — check `Assets/AutoSprite/Imported/` for your sliced sprites, animation clips, and Animator Controller ### Cloud Import If you want to pull spritesheets directly from your AutoSprite account: 1. Enter your **API Base URL** and **API Key** from your [AutoSprite dashboard](https://autosprite.com) 2. Enter the **Character ID** and **Animation ID** 3. Click **Download & Import** — the extension fetches and sets everything up ## Testing Your Animations Want to see your animations running in-game right away? 1. Create an empty GameObject 2. Add a `SpriteRenderer` and `Animator` component 3. Drag the generated Animator Controller onto the Animator's **Controller** field 4. Hit Play Your character should start animating immediately. ## Why We Built This The whole point of AutoSprite is to get game-ready sprites as fast as possible. But the last step — getting those sprites *into your engine* and set up properly — was still manual and repetitive. This extension closes that gap.
